Fredinko is an artist, cartoonist and advertiser. He published his first cartoon at the age of 14, and outlines and deadlines have shaped his days ever since. Alongside his later career in advertising, he refined an artistic signature that he himself places “somewhere between pop art and neo-cubism”. This aesthetic has its origin in a father-son conflict: the father, an architect of the old Bauhaus school, demanded strictly geometric forms, while the rebellious son insisted on organic, free lines. In Fredinko’s work the two poles now merge, with order dominating at times and chaos at others. The Swiss artist with German, Hungarian and Slovak roots became known above all for his live performances, where he fills huge canvases with idiosyncratic drawings and invites the audience to colour them in. Today he lives with his family in Adliswil, where he also runs his studio.
